ROCKY KNOLL WINE
We grow our wine grapes on a south-facing “Rocky Knoll” in the middle of Dunbar Farms. Our vineyard is approximately four acres of mature Bordeaux varietals: Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Merlot. Our oldest vines, planted in the mid-1970s, are one of the earliest modern grape plantings in the Rogue Valley. The combination of mature vines, warm days, and cool evenings is ideal for producing elegant, sophisticated red wines.
Every Friday in the summer and every other Friday in the winter, we host a “Friday Pickup.” We pour samples of our wine and sell by the glass or by the bottle. Our produce, breads, and grains are also available for purchase, and customers who pre-ordered can pickup their bags.
Our Claret is dark, polished, focused, and complex, serving up tiers of intensely concentrated flavors. Ripe plums, black cherry, boysenberry, and cassis fan out evenly on the palate. A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot that is plush and supple with enticing hints of fresh earth, cedar oak and mocha.
Our Dunbar Red is a lighter wine with hints of cherry and raspberry, intended to be enjoyed on its own or with light food or appetizers. Predominantly Merlot but often blended with Cab Sauv and Franc, depending on the vintage, our Dunbar Red is about easy drinkability and subtle character.
Dunbar Farms is located by the Cascade foothills on the east slope of the Rogue Valley, in a climate similar to that of the famed Bordeaux and Mediterranean wine regions. Our arid, hot days and snappy, cold nights are perfect for complete ripening. Clay soil low on the flanks of the hill yields to sandy loam that allows for careful water management and concentrated, exceptional fruit. Our unusual vineyard is terraced east to west, a laborious process that yields distinctive wine grapes. The vines range from eleven to nearly thirty five years old; young, ripe, and fruity tannins emblematic of the best Southern Oregon wines are integrated with dark, aged, full-body old vine fruit, offering a complexity of character unique to our award-winning wines.
